Postcard Story : 50th Anniversary Celebration of Myanmar Motion Pictures

Myanmar Motion Picture Industry has its centenary celebration in 2020.  The first ever Burmese film was "Love and Liqueur" | "မေတ္တာနှင့်သူရာ" and was on-screen on 13 October 1920 at the Royal Cinema [1].  The exact centenary is approaching soon at the time of writing.  The first Burmese director is London Art U Ohn Maung and the story is by P Moe Nin.  It is the silent film starring U Nyi Pu.  U Ohn Maung is Burma's pioneer filmmaker, and had founded the Burma Film Company.  The film was a great success despite the quality due to a fixed camera position and inadequate film accessories.

These cards were published by Myanmar Motion Picture Council, which is now known as Myanmar Motion Picture Organization.  I do not have information of how many designs were produced in this set, but I believe there can be more than four.

1st Congress of Burmese Socialist Program Party

Burmese Socialist Program Party (BSPP in short) was established on 4 July 1962.  The first congress of the BSPP was held from June 28 to July 11, 1971 at Institute of Political Science, Mingalardon.  The State Philatelic Advisory Board (SPAB), which formed on 5 February 1970 suggested some stamps to be issued to mark the part congress.  It is second and last set of stamps issued in the recommendation of SPAB.  Four stamps were issued together with the souvenir sheet.

This is the first time for Burma to issue the souvenir sheet.  The perforation on the sheet is printed one unfortunately.

Another International Reply Coupon

International Reply Coupons for Burma are scarce and rarely seen on online auctions. Richard Warren reported one coupon with 4 annas value cancelled 30 May 1941 in Fantail 30. Another IRC with 62 pyas denomination (VINNEA type) was acquired recently and it is good to report here. It is cancelled “RANGOON GPO / TREAS” on 14 Sept 1971.

VI These were given the designation VI for the different types. The so called Vienna type of IRC‘s, launched by the UPU at the end of 1965 and early 1966 as a result of the UPU Congress held in Vienna 1964. This type lasted until 1975. To verify the sub-type one has to study the reverse as well as the obverse. This coupon is (Vienna) type VI-XX.
