23rd Anniversary of Postal Business Meeting

Myanmar hosted the 23rd Anniversary of the Postal Business Meeting, and to mark the occasion Myanmar Post issued a commemorative set of stamps. The set comprises two denominations, 100 kyats and 500 kyats. In addition, a set of postcards bearing the same designs as the stamps was released, together with an official first day cover.

Shwenyaung PO is located on Shwenyaung township, Shan State (South).  Click the link for the exact location on the map. During my visit on 1 Nov 2016, I reached there in the early morning. I had no chance to send the mail out.  The PO is grade 4 PO and its postal code is 06012.

Mobile Post Office (Myanmar Post)

Myanmar Post run the Mobile PO to attract tourists to send mails and postcards.  The trial of the project is run from 1 Oct 2016, but the actual launching date is 9 Oct 2016 (which is UPU day).  According to the MPS members, the mobile PO stopped at Shwedagon East gate for half day, and later move on to the Bogyoke Aung San market (Scott market).  The PO accepts ordinary mail, registered mail, EMS, sell postcards and stamps.

The cancellation used on soft launching date of 1 Oct used "YANGON G.P.O" while the actual one used "YANGON".  See below covers for comparison.

Philatelic Meeting with Chairman of B(M)PSC

Philatelic meeting of Mr Rufus Barnes, Mrs Margaret Barnes and Myanmar philatelists will be held as per following program. The invitation is opened to members of Myanmar Philatelic Society.  Mr Rufus is the chairman of Burma (Myanmar) philatelic study circle, which is the UK based organization with international membership.  Learn more about B(M)PSC here.

UPU Day, 2016 commemorative postmark

The official postmark was struck on commemorative covers at Yangon GPO on World Post day, 9th October 2016, starting from 9:30 AM.  An official cover was also sold on that day.  MPS, also created it's own philatelic cover and sold to members and collectors.

Ministry of Transport and Communications, under new government <English Version>

Under the new government, the ministry name is changed as "Ministry of Transport and Communications" from 1st April 2016.  Myanmar post is administered under this ministry.  Commemorative postmark is provided at Yangon GPO for philatelists and public. 

Wazi, the security printing work of Myanmar", usually packed 50 sheets of stamps in one big envelop and stuck the information label on the envelop.  After the new government organization chart is adopted, Myanmar post issued its first stamps set of new government in August to commemorate the Peace conference.  The new stamps sheet envelop comes with the label which indicates its ministry name. The first line of the label says "Minister's Office, Ministry of Transport and Communications", in Burmese.

New issue on Aung San Suu Kyi theme

Togo issued new commemorative sheet, featuring noble peace award recipients.  One of the stamp features Daw Aung San Suu Kyi portrait.  In the background, she is giving the speech at the political event held by National League for Democracy (NLD), hanging NLD flag at the back. Denomination for all four stamps in the sheet are same at 750F.

Union Peace Conference (21st Century Panglong)

Union Peace Conference also known as 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference is the main conference in the national peace negotiation process handled by the government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.  The conference will be started on 31st August 2016.  In commemoration of the conference, the Myanmar Post will issue three stamps.  It is also the first stamp issue under the new government.

U Mya Thaung FDC

Nampan Post Office

Nampan PO is located on Nampan Village, Nyaungshwe township, Shan State (South).  Click the link for the exact location on the map. Nampam  is the small village in Inle lake.  The post office is just the home for the family of postal staff and also the grocery shop.  During my visit on 29 Dec 2015, the staff is not at the home.  So, I passed the stamped letters to the resident. But, unluckily, the letters were not delivered to the destination until July 2016.  The PO is grade 4 PO and its postal code is 06085.

Nampan Post Office

There is one red letter box hanging outside of the house.  It is also nice place to see for tourist, as the Nampan village is floating in the lake as well.  The nearest attraction is Alodaw Pauk Pagoda.

Updating the list of "Aung San Suu Kyi on Stamps"

Sierra Leone issued new set of stamps featuring Nobel prize winners.  For our attention, the miniature sheet featured "Aung San Suu Kyi", and the denominated 24000 Le.

Myingagone Post Office

Myingagone PO is located in Myingagone Village, Bogalay township, Ayerwaddy Region.  The PO is located near the main Jetty of the village.  Click the link for the exact location on the map.  I visited this PO on 1 Jan 2016.  The PO is grade 5 PO and there is only one postal staff working.  The postmark is severely damaged and cannot be read at all.  The date is hand written.  The postal code for this PO is 10232.

Bogalay (Bogale) Post Office

Bogalay PO is located in Bogalay town, Ayerwaddy Region.  The PO is located on 18th street, near the Bogalay education college.  Click the link for the exact location on the map.  I visited this PO on 1 Jan 2016.  The PO is grade 4 PO and its postal code is 10231.  The postmaster and her husband are quite helpful and I had a nice chat with them.

Bogalay PO write the registration number and PO name on the cover by hand.  Some cover comes with PO name in English (B.G.L) and some with Burmese (Ba/Ka/La) characters.
