The Burma StaMPS Volume 3

The Myanmar Philatelic Society launched the quarterly publication of the brand-new "The Burma StaMPS" journal in 2022, which also serves as the society's newsletter. The journal is edited by Ko Toe, who hopes that publishing it in the Burmese language will attract new collectors to the hobby of philately and keep the society active and engaged.

Each issue contains 20 pages and is printed in full color. The final issue of each year, released in October, features a captivating compilation of articles centered around a single theme. In 2024, the chosen theme is "Maximaphily," aimed at introducing members to the creation and collection of maximum cards.

In 2024, four issues were published in January, April, July, and October. Digital copies of the journal are distributed to MPS members free of charge. The editor has compiled the four issues, along with a contents list, author index, subject index, and post office index, into a softbound printed book, comprising a total of 108 pages.

The Burma StaMPS Volume 2

The Burma StaMPS Vol 1 (2022) won Silver Bronze medal at TAIPEI 2023.

In the year 2022, the spotlight falls on "Bird Stamps," weaving together a tapestry of avian beauty depicted on stamps. In 2023, the focus shifts gracefully to the "Rangoon General Post Office (GPO)," exploring its historical and postal significance. These thematic choices promise enriching reads and visual delights for enthusiasts and collectors alike. 

In 2023, four issues for Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct were published.  The digital copies of the journal is distributed to MPS members.  The editor compiled four issues, together with the contents, author index, subject index and post office index, and produced the softbound printed book.  The whole volume includes 104 pages.  The annual book is adorned with a painting by the talented artist Ko G Latt, gracing its cover with vibrant colors and artistic brilliance.

"STAMP LOVER" solo exhibition by U Sit Aung

MPS Vice President U Sit Aung organized a captivating solo stamp exhibition called "STAMP LOVER" at the Artist Gallery Café in Yangon. The exhibition took place from June 26th to 28th 2023 at No. 99, Lamai Condo, Myaynu Road, Sanchang Township. The exhibition was open for visitors between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.  The event showcased a diverse collection of Burma and International stamps, along with other philatelic items. Enthusiasts and individuals interested in stamps had the opportunity to attend the exhibition and explore these captivating artifacts. The event received support from both attendees and MPS team members, contributing to its success.

In 2022, four issues for Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct were published.  The digital copies of the journal is distributed to MPS members.  In Mandalay, Ko Sein Min kindly printed every issues in color and distributed to Mandalay members at no charge.  The editor compiled four issues, together with the contents, author index, subject index and post office index, and produced the softbound printed book.  The whole volume includes 92 pages. 

U Khin Tun passed away

It is sad to learn that U Khin Thun, one of the Burmese well-known philatelist, passed away on 27 July 2021 at 7 PM in Meiktila.  U Khin Tun, we called him Par Par Gyi, is the patron of the Myanmar Philatelic Society.  When MPS was established, U Khin Tun was elected as the Vice President of the society.  We personally met several times at his flat, had lunch together and talk about stamps.  I am grateful for the literature of Burmese philately he shared with me, so I can started my study. 

Par Par Gyi contributed many research works and articles in Burma Peacock and Burma Fantail philatelic journals.  It is a great loss to Burmese Philatelic communities.My deepest condolences are with his family.  May his soul rest in peace.

MPS online activity during COVID-19 pandemic

During COVID-19 pandemic stay home period, Ko Toe organized a philatelic talk series for MPS members via Zoom cloud meeting.  The talk series was reported in the previous post.  Ko Toe himself gave presentation of four titles on his airletter sheet exhibit, modern philately class, picture postcard class and thematic class.  Ko Toe reported this online activity to FIAP News Issue 48.

Myanmar's Federation enters Asian Family

As the first phase of Ko Toe's efforts to bring Myanmar collectors to international philately, Myanmar Philatelic Society also known as MPS submitted an application for membership to FIAP in January 2019. The application was provisionally approved at the FIAP Executive Committee Meeting held on 1 March 2019 in Hong Kong.

The membership application was approved unanimously in 22nd congress of FIAP on 3 Aug 2019.  The congress was held in Singapore together with Singpex 2019.  The approval news was recorded in FIAP News 47 and FIP Flash 129.

MPS Philatelic Talk Episode 1 : Foreign Aerogrammes of Burma 1946-2001

Ko Toe Philately is organizing the Philatelic Talk Series of collectors in Myanmar together with Myanmar Philatelic Society via Zoom.  The talk is hosted on the Zoom cloud meeting.  As the fist episode of the series, Ko Toe himself gave a talk on "Foreign Aerogrammes of Burma 1946-2001" on 16 May 2020.  

About 18 attendees were present at the live session.  Many late comers and some with technical difficulties cannot join the live session, but watched recorded video posted on the Myanmar Philatelic Society Facebook page.

Yangon University Centenary Philatelic Show

Myanmar Philatelic Society organizes a remarkable philatelic shows as part of the centenary celebration of Yangon University.  The show is running from 7 to 8 March 2020, at the recreation center of Yangon University.

Numismatic collectors also turned up with their collections to complement the show. Many MPS members participated in the shows with their exhibits. I exhibited my one frame exhibit titled as "Postal System in Myanmar and their Development 1990-1999".  The exhibit includes the developments of Myanmar Post postal system and their efforts for speedy delivery in 1990s with the study of hand stamps varieties.  Also the postage rates changes, registration labels introduced, modern mail censorship and postage due processing are presented in the postal history aspect.

Yangon University Post Office open the PO counter at the exhibition.  The normal and registered mails are accepted, and sell stamps.  An official commemorative postmark is prepared.

MPS Philatelic Show at Yangon GPO

In conjunction with the celebration of 100th anniversary of Yangon GPO building, MPS organized the philatelic show at Yangon GPO on 23 Sept 2018.  MPS members participated and exhibited.  Myanmar Post authorized the commemorative cancellation for the event.  MPS produced the event cover, used 100th anniversary GPO stamp and cancelled with the event cancellation.

The certificate of appreciation was awarded to MPS and its exhibitors by Myanmar Post.

Philatelic Meeting with Chairman of B(M)PSC

Philatelic meeting of Mr Rufus Barnes, Mrs Margaret Barnes and Myanmar philatelists will be held as per following program. MPS AGM and Philatelic Talk to be held on 28 Feb 2016
